Lily Etheridge

Lily Rae Etheridge, age 76, of Alabaster, died Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19, 2010, at Ridout’s Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham. The funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010, in Southern Heritage Chapel. Burial will follow in Southern Heritage Cemetery. The Rev. Steve Kilpatrick and the Rev. Robert Etheridge will officiate.
Lily was born in Dallas, Texas on Jan. 18, 1934. She graduated from Crozier Technical High School, Dallas, in 1952. She enjoyed a career in banking and completed many banking courses before retiring as a bank teller from AmSouth Bank in Alabaster.
Lily was involved in Christian education as a teacher at Calvary Christian Academy in Alabaster from 1974-1980. She was very active in children’s church ministries, serving as a Sunday school teacher and bus captain. Currently, she was an active member of Gospel Light Baptist Church in Helena.
Lily is survived by her husband, the Rev. Robert Etheridge; mother, Lillie Hinton of Alba, Texas; two sons, Greg and Paul (Lisa) Etheridge of Alabaster; two daughters, Laurie Mattox (Jay) of Birmingham and Elaine McLemore (Wayland) of Carthage, Texas; a brother, Thomas Kent (Lottie) of Dallas; a sister, Elwanda Cosby (Curtis) of Alba; seven granddaughters, Suzanne and Julianne Mattox, Bekah Etheridge, Casey and Jill McLemore, Rachel and Reagan Etheridge; and two grandsons, Eddie Etheridge and Shane McLemore.
The family suggests that memorial gifts be made to the American Cancer Society, 1100 Ireland Way, Birmingham, AL 35205.
