Indian Springs baseball sweeps doubleheader

The Indian Springs High School baseball team swept a doubleheader against Parkway Christian and Jefferson Christian in high school baseball action Feb. 27.
Freshman Stephen Himic struck out 12 batters in a five-inning no-hitter to lead Indian Springs to a 15-0 win over Parkway Christian.
Stuart Lewis finished with two doubles and three RBIs at the plate. Will Riley recorded two hits and scored two runs.
Himic hit for the cycle and finished with six RBIs as Indian Springs (6-1) defeated Jefferson Christian 23-2.
David Busby and Ben Wallace finished 4-for-4 with four RBIs each.
Daniel Woodall allowed only two runs on five hits with five strikeouts in four innings to pick up the win.
Pelham sweeps doubleheader at Grissom
The Pelham Panthers (8-2) picked up two wins in dramatic fashion Feb. 27 at Grissom High School in Huntsville.
Pelham won the opener 3-2. Senior Trae Santos (3-0) allowed only one hit in six innings with six strikeouts and four walks to pick up the win in the first game.
Trevor Fitts struck out all three batters he faced in the seventh inning to record the save. Parker Curry and Michael Bishop each hit a solo homer in the win.
The Panthers won the nightcap 5-4 in 11 innings. Hunter Pearson picked up the win after allowing only one hit with six strikeouts and a walk in four relief innings.
Andrew Bishop’s RBI single in the top of the 11th inning drove in Jake Williams for the game-winning run. Tripp Martin, who started on the mound and gave up one earned run on four hits with seven strikeouts and two walks, finished with a four hits at the plate.
Martin had a double, an RBI and four stolen bases in the win. Michael Bishop finished with three hits and an RBI.
Thompson defeats Pinson Valley, Dallas County
The Thompson Warriors beat Pinson Valley 8-3 and defeated Dallas County 9-2 in high school baseball action Feb. 27.
Jacob Swindle started on the mound for the Warriors and pitched four innings. Swindle allowed three unearned runs on two hits with seven strikeouts and three walks.
Aaron McRee shut out the Indians in the final three innings to pick up the win. McRee allowed two hits with two strikeouts and no walks to earn his first win of the season.
The Warriors (8-2) were led at the plate by Andrew Smith, who hit a bases-loaded triple in the bottom of the sixth inning to break open a 3-3 tie. Gus Williford, Tyler Pennington, Chad Collum and Conner Gill all had singles to drive in runs.
Thompson picked up a 9-2 victory over visiting Dallas County in its second game of the day.
Michael Schofield was 2-for-2 with a double, three RBIs and three runs scored to lead the Warriors. Jonathan Keller was 2-for-2 with a triple and an RBI and Taylor Bria and Trent Harper also drove in runs.
Senior Zach Hawkins (2-0) got the win for the Warriors after pitching four innings allowing one unearned run on two hits with five strikeouts and a walk. Jake Hester pitched the fifth inning and recorded two strike outs while allowing one hit.
Anthony Maldanado pitched the sixth inning and gave up one run on one hit. Zach Hamrick struck out two batters in seventh inning to finish off Dallas County.
Spain Park swept in doubleheader with Vestavia Hills
The Spain Park Jaguars were swept in a doubleheader with Vestavia Hills in high school baseball action Feb. 27.
Spain Park dropped the first game 11-4. Colton Freeman took the loss after giving up four runs on five hits with a strikeout and a walk in 2 2/3 innings.
Jake Lee led the Jaguars (7-3) at the plate by going 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Carter White had a hit and two RBIs. Charlie McPherson also had a hit.
Vestavia beat Spain Park 12-6 in the second game of the doubleheader.
Matt Abernathy took the loss after giving up six earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts and a walk in three innings.
Jake Lee, Carter White and Mikey White finished with two hits each. Aaron Haag finished 1-for-2 with a two-run homer. White also finished with two RBIs.
