The department opened registration for the city’s adult softball and Start Smart baseball leagues March 1 at the Parks and Recreation Office at 100 Depot St.

Start Smart registration will be open until March 12, and adult softball registration will run until March 26.

Alabaster will host adult softball leagues for men, co-ed teams and men’s church teams. Start Smart will be open to 3- and 4-year-olds who turn 3 before April 1, and who do not turn 5 before April 1.

Adult softball teams can consist of up to 20 players, and registration is $280 per team. Teams must also pay an $80 forfeit bond and a $20-per-game umpire fee.

Registration fee for the Start Smart league is $85 for Alabaster residents and $93.50 for non-residents.

The Start Smart registration fee will include two Koosh balls, a bat and ball set, a glove, a participant manual, a T-shirt and a participation medal. The adult softball registration fee will cover 12 games and the required Amateur Softball Association sanctioning fee.

Participants can pay the registration fee with cash, debit, Visa or Mastercard, but the Parks and Recreation Department does not accept checks.

The adult softball season will begin the week of May 3 at Buck Creek Park, and Start Smart sessions will begin April 6. Start Smart locations are to be announced.
