A volunteer group helped nearly 400 people in need of clothing and shoes during its first Acts of Kindness spring clothing giveaway March 6.
During the event, the Acts of Kindness group donated clothes and shoes to 394 people who otherwise may have not been able to afford them, said event organizer Rebecca Krueger.
“Clothing was given to 394 people ranging in ages from a few months to those in their 80s,” Krueger said. “The giveaway was wonderful.”
The event drew support from volunteers from across Shelby and Jefferson counties, who donated clothing and time to the event, Krueger said.
“We had an amazing outpouring of support from so many all over Jefferson and Shelby counties,” Krueger said. “The giving ranged from the giving of their time by spreading the word and helping us prepare, as well as assisting those that came to shop for free.
“We were so thankful for those that gave out of their blessings clothing that far exceeded our expectations for this first spring clothing giveaway,” she added.
All clothing not given away during the March 6 event was donated to the Birmingham-based Daniel Cason Ministries, who will distribute the clothing to Birmingham residents in need.
