The Chelsea High School girls’ soccer team captured the B Division championship at the Metro tournament March 26.

The Hornets finished in a 1-1 tie with Pinson Valley in their final Metro tournament game March 26. Stephanie LaBeau scored the only Chelsea goal in the game.

The Hornets (4-5-1) won the title based on a points system after defeating Pleasant Grove and Gardendale in their first two Metro tournament games earlier in the week.

Chelsea received its B Division championship trophy during halftime of the boys’ championship game March 27 at Hoover High School.

Chelsea girls’ soccer coach Jonathan Hammett said it is the Hornets’ first Metro tournament championship in school history.

“It’s pretty significant for us because we’re a pretty young team,” Hammett said. “It’s a good accomplishment for us.”

LaBeau and Lauren Swee were named to the Metro all-tournament team.
