Maylene resident Jessica Jacobs qualified for a spot on the USA Elite Duathlon World Championship team following her second-place performance March 27 in the USA Triathlon Elite Duathlon National Championship at Oak Mountain State Park.

Jacobs, 34, finished second with a time of 3:06:57 in the combined 20-kilometer run and 60-kilometer bike race. Her payout was $700 for the second-place finish.

Marisa Asplund of Durango, Colo., won the women’s national championship with a time of 3:06:05.

Joerie Vansteelant of Belgium won the men’s national championship with a time of 2:42:51.

The top four men’s and women’s finishers from the United States qualified for the USA Elite Duathlon World Championship team.
