Helena Police looking into trio of burglaries

The Helena Police Department is investigating a recent trio of burglaries in two city neighborhoods.

Police reported two burglaries on Rolling Mill Street off Alabama 261 near Old Town Helena, and one in the Jackson Square subdivision off Shelby County 17.

Helena Police Capt. Tim Carter said the department has identified possible suspects in the burglary cases, but police will not release names until the suspects are arrested.

“Those are the only three burglaries we have had,” Carter said. “It sounds like (the suspects) will travel around and just hit places at random. That’s what makes them so hard to track.”

Carter said Helena and its surrounding communities have been hit hard by burglars recently, something he attributed to the nation’s down economy.

“Any time the economy is slow, we start seeing an increase in burglaries everywhere,” Carter said.
