Alline Campbell Pino’, age 96, of Pelham, passed away at her home Monday March 29, 2010. Mrs. Pino was born to John and Gladys Campbell on Dec. 3, 1913, in Greenville. She was a graduate of Birmingham- Southern College and a graduate from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with a masters degree in sociology. Following her graduation, she became one of six ladies to be selected from the state of Alabama to serve in the U.S. Army, Women ‘s Army Corps. She left the Army with a rank of Major. During her stay in the Women’s Army Corps, she met and married her love, First Lieutanant Salvatore M. Pino’, Jr. They were the first couple during World War II where an Air Force officer and Army officer were married. Following her stay in the military, Mrs. Pino’ and her husband returned to New York to raise their family where she taught elementary school and her husband worked as an Assistant District Attorney with the New York District Attorney’s Office. In 1987, she and her husband retired and returned to her native Alabama where she has lived until her death. She is a former member of Pelham United Methodist Church.
She is preceded in death by her brother, John W. Campbell.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Col. Salvatore M. Pino’, Jr.; two children, Attorney Jim (Elizabeth) Pino’ of North Shelby County and daughter Judith Ann (Frank) Stallone of Bayville, N.Y.; grandchildren Jeff (Jessie) Pino’, Jennifer Pino’, Justin Pino’, Matthew Stallone and Susan Stallone.
Mrs. Pino’ was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed.
Funeral arrangements for Mrs. Pino’ will be Thursday, April 1, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Southern Heritage Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Southern Heritage Cemetery. Her family will receive friends Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
