A Shelby County man will spend the next two decades in prison after he was sentenced for producing and possessing child pornography.

U.S. District Judge Sharon Blackburn sentenced Montevallo resident Oscar Rast Jr. to 20 years in prison April 1 on two counts of producing child pornography and one count of possessing child pornography.

After he is released from jail, Rast will be on supervised probation for the rest of his life and must register as a sex offender.

According to court documents, Rast “enticed an 11-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy to engage in sexually explicit conduct” so he could record it with a digital camera in August 2008. Rast pleaded guilty to the charges in October 2009.

“People who produce child pornography abuse children in inexplicable ways, manipulating them in sexual situations and subjecting them to unbelievable horrors,” said U.S. Attorney Joyce White. “These are the bad guys, and they need to be taken off the streets.”

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, the Montevallo Police Department and the Postal Inspection Service aided in the investigation.
