United Way of Central Alabama will close out tax season by offering free credit reports and credit counseling while continuing its no-cost tax preparation services.

The Central Alabama agency, which serves Shelby County, will offer the services at the United Way Auditorium at 3600 Eighth Ave. S. in Birmingham from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. until April 15.

Through the program, representatives from Aliant Bank, the Birmingham Home Ownership Center, the Consumer Credit Counseling Service and Neighborhood Housing Services of Birmingham will provide the credit reports and credit counseling to visitors on a first-come, first-served basis.

Through the United Way’s free tax preparation service, Internal Revenue Service-trained tax preparers will be on hand to help people whose adjusted household income was less than $58,000 in 2009.
