The Shelby/Bibb County Red Cross has planned a “Military Bits and Bites” event for May 6 at noon.

The event is aimed at providing information about Operation Military Kids and the Alabama Joint Family Support Program.

Paul Morton, a youth program specialist, will discuss resources available to geographically dispersed families. Patricia Randich–Dumas, a military family life consultant, will talk about children’s supplies for the Operation Military Kids camp.

Operation: Military Kids (OMK) is a collaborative effort launched in 2005 between the Army and organizations like 4H to support youth impacted by deployment. OMK has worked with 88,000 military youth since 2005.

Families interested in attending the free lunch and workshop should call 987-2792 to reserve a spot.

The local Red Cross office is located in the Southlake shopping center off Valleydale Road. For more information, call 987–2792 or e–mail mary.kinard@redcrossal.org.
