Calera softball ends season with losses in Class 4A region tournament

The Calera High School softball team ended its season with back-to-back losses in the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 4A South Central region tournament May 7 in Troy.

The Eagles fell 13-3 to Corner in their opening game. Calera dropped an elimination game against Childersburg 10-8.

The Eagles did all of their damage against Corner in the fourth inning. Katelyn Dean led off with a single. Kymber McGiboney followed with another single and Brianna Sherman reached on an error. Anna Seabury was hit by a pitch and drove in a run before Heather Giddens knocked in two runs with a single.

McGiboney added a double in the sixth inning for the final Calera hit in the game. Giddens pitched 5 1/3 innings for the Eagles and took the loss.

Calera scored four runs in the first inning against Childersburg. Shelby Clark, Brittany Files and Dean each drew a walk and scored a run. McGiboney had an RBI single. Sherman drove in a run. Giddens hit a single and Seabury had an RBI single.

McGiboney hit a single and scored a run and Giddens added a single in the third inning.

The Eagles scored their final three runs in the seventh inning. Dean hit a single, stole a base and scored a run. McGiboney hit a single and scored a run. Sherman drove in a run. Giddens hit a single, had an RBI, stole a base and scored a run.

Dean pitched three innings and took the loss for Calera. Katie Eiland pitched in relief.
