Thompson finishes 1-2 at region softball tournament

The Thompson High School softball team ended its season with a 1-2 mark at the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 6A North Central softball region tournament May 7-8 at Liberty Park in Vestavia Hills.
The Warriors dropped their opener 4-2 to Tuscaloosa County and bounced back with a 12-0 win over Minor on the first day of action. Thompson was eliminated from the tournament May 8 following a 5-0 loss to Hueytown.
Ashley Savage and Sarah Beth Holdbrooks led Thompson at the plate by going 2-for-3 each in the 4-2 loss to Tuscaloosa County.
Marly Terrell, Ashleigh Short and Kelsey Johnson finished 1-for-3 each.
Terrell drove in both runs for the Warriors. Holdbrooks and Johnson scored one run each.
Rachel Rigney gave up four runs with seven strikeouts in a complete game in the loss.
Kim Wilson and Short led Thompson as each finished 2-for-4 at the plate in the 12-0 win over Minor.
Staci Roberson and Savage went 1-for-2 each. Ashley Sawyer and Rigney finished 1-for-1.
Short and Rigney drove in two runs each. Laurel Riley, Taylor Powell, Amanda Springer, Savannah Gossett, Wilson, Roberson, Sawyer and Savage drove in one run each.
Wilson, Roberson, Gossett and Savage scored two runs each. Rigney, Riley, Springer and Powell scored one run each.
Powell picked up the win in the circle as she pitched a five-inning shutout with seven strikeouts and a walk.
Rigney was the only player to reach base in Thompson’s 5-0 loss to Hueytown.
Rigney, who reached on a walk, took the loss after giving up five runs with four strikeouts and a walk in six innings.
