A Helena school will be working to help a local 9-year-old in need during its May 22 Spring Fling charity event.

Primrose School of Riverwoods, which is at 501 Riverwoods Court off Shelby County 52 in Helena, will hold the Spring Fling at its campus from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

The event will focus on family safety, and will feature the Helena Police and Fire departments, fingerprinting stations and CPR and first aid lessons.

The event will also feature inflatable games, carnival games, document shredding, food and more.

During the event, school officials will hold silent auctions for BCS National Championship footballs signed by Trent Richardson and Mark Ingram, NASCAR apparel autographed by Kasey Kahne, Summer Classics furniture and footballs autographed by Dan Marino.

The school will also auction off University of Alabama footballs signed by Nick Saban, Bobby Humphrey and Major Ogilvie.

Money raised during the auctions will be donated into a charitable account for Trevor Willis, a 9-year-old Helena resident who has been diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma. The money will be used to defer Willis’ medical expenses.

Some of the money raised will also benefit Primrose’s “Reach out and Read” program, which fosters reading among children ages 6 months to 5 years old.
