June 1 deadline for DCP, ACRE enrollment

The USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA)’s Executive Director William Browning reminds farmers that enrollment for the 2010 Average Crop Revenue Election Program (ACRE) and the Counter-Cyclical Program (DCP) will end June 1.

Browning said that late-filed applications will not be accepted because, unlike in years past, no late filed provisions are permitted for contract years 2009-2012.

“DCP and ACRE are programs that the USDA offers to farmers who farm land that has historically been farmed,” Browning said.

June 1 of the contract period is the deadline for all owners and operators who will share in the DCP payments on the farm must sign the CCC-509.

The optional ACRE Program provides a safety net based on State revenue losses and acts in place of the price-based safety net of counter-cyclical payments under DCP. By participating in ACRE, producers elect to forgo counter-cyclical payments.

To elect ACRE for a farm, producers must complete Form CCC-509 ACRE, which irrevocably elects ACRE for the farm through crop year 2012.

Sign-ups for the programs began in January.
