One hundred golfers hit the links at Ballantrae Golf Club May 24 to help raise funds for the Alabaster-Pelham Rotary Club.

The tournament serves as the major fundraiser for the club, and all proceeds are returned to the two communities in the form of scholarships for high school seniors, assisting senior citizens at Christmas time and assisting Rotary International in projects in third-world countries.

Last year, the Alabaster-Pelham and Montevallo Rotary clubs funded three fresh water wells in Africa, while both organizations also funded numerous local scholarships and school projects.

“It’s a great organization where 100 percent of the money goes back to the community,” said Pelham Mayor Don Murphy in his opening remarks before the tournament. “The money y’all spent here will go straight back to the community.”
