A local news reporter suffered minor injuries during the early morning hours of June 2 after someone shot into his vehicle on Interstate 65.
Jeremy King, a Kingwood Christian School graduate and news reporter with ABC 33/40, was returning to Birmingham from Montgomery sometime between 1-2 a.m. when an unidentified vehicle pulled alongside King’s Toyota SUV and shot into the vehicle several times.
The incident happened near the Shelby/Chilton county line, but authorities believe the shooting happened in Shelby County, said Shelby County Sheriff’s Department Division Commander Ken Burchfield.
“We believe it did occur within Shelby County,” Burchfield said. “An unknown car pulled alongside (King) and shot into his vehicle.
“He wasn’t struck by a bullet, but he had some minor injuries, I guess from glass or something like that,” Burchfield added.
King’s vehicle bore no external markings identifying it as a news vehicle, and the two vehicles were the only ones traveling on the stretch of road when the shooting happened, Burchfield said.
“There was nobody in front of them and nobody behind them,” Burchfield said. “We honestly do not know why this happened.
“We have a full team of investigators on it right now,” Burchfield added.
