Kelly West of Oak Mountain High School was selected as the recipient of Alabama Telco Credit Union’s 2009-2010 Community Service Scholarship.
She was awarded $1,000 with $500 going to the charity of her choice, American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life (Oak Mountain).
West was selected for her 225 community service hours and essay detailing her work with Hope Lodge, where patients receive cancer treatments and use art as therapy. West graduated from Oak Mountain in May and will attend Auburn University.
“Community service is a big part of who we are as a credit union. Our Community Service Scholarship is another way we can encourage and applaud young adults who realize the importance and need to give back to their community,” said Linda Cencula, Alabama Telco’s president and chief executive officer.
