Former Spain Park High School baseball standout Alex Jones, a 27th round pick in the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft, recently signed a minor league contract with the Milwaukee Brewers.

Jones, who just finished his career at Jacksonville State University, was drafted with pick No. 819 in the 27th round.

Jones, the Gamecocks’ closer, finished his senior season with a team-best 3.53 earned run average in 28 appearances out of the bullpen. Jones holds Jacksonville State’s Division I record for career saves with 18 after recording six in 2010.

Jones is expected to report to his minor league destination — Helena, Mont., — to begin play in a short-season league June 21.
