Local team headed to softball National championship tournament

A team made up of local high school softball standouts is headed to the Amateur Softball Association of America National championship tournament Aug. 1-8 in College Station, Texas.
The Alabama Twisters ’94, based in Helena, won the gold medal in the 16-and-under division at the Alabama Sports Festival softball tournament June 19-20. The Twisters earned a berth in the ASA national tournament with the first-place finish.
The Twisters include Maddie Ridgeway, Caroline Seitz, Leah Reeve and Kailey Boone of Oak Mountain, Taylor Powell and Savannah Gossett of Alabaster, Brittani Morris and Courtney Shields of Columbiana, and Melanie Tittle of Pelham.
The team is coached by David Seitz of Oak Mountain. Seitz’s assistants include Columbiana’s Jeff Shields.
