Spain Park High School rising senior Carter White has had one date circled on his calendar for months.
Excitement built up for White as the month of July inched closer. The date of the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s North-South All-Star baseball game in Huntsville is almost here.
White will take the field July 13 at Joe Davis Stadium for a doubleheader, beginning at 4 p.m.
“I can’t wait,” White said. “I’ve just been counting down the days. I’m going to be able to play with a couple of my friends. We’re going to have a good time.”
White, a standout catcher for the Jaguars, hopes to increase interest in him among college baseball scouts with a strong performance in the all-star setting. White doesn’t currently have any scholarship offers, but he hopes that will change before his senior season begins.
“It should give me some more exposure,” White said. “I’m sure there will be coaches watching.”
White is one of three Shelby County baseball players selected to play in the all-star game. White will join Pelham rising senior pitcher Trevor Fitts and Thompson rising senior pitcher Jonathan Keller on the North team.
Several other Shelby County athletes and coaches were also chosen to participate in the AHSAA’s 14th annual All-Star Sports Week in Huntsville. All athletes selected to participate are rising seniors.
Megan Dancy of Oak Mountain, Dabney Hofammann of Indian Springs, Lauren Swee of Chelsea, Ally Jennings of Briarwood Christian and Annalika Steyn of Spain Park were chosen to play for the North in the girls’ soccer game, which will be held July 12 at 5 p.m. at John Hunt Park. Thompson coach Nathan Button and Indian Springs coach Hunter Gray were tabbed for the North coaching staff.
Chris Burris of Briarwood Christian, Jack O’Neil of Spain Park, Phillip Dublin of Pelham and John Imwalle of Oak Mountain were named to the North squad in the boys’ soccer game July 12 at 7 p.m. at John Hunt Park. Pelham coach Patrick McDonald will serve on the North coaching staff.
Briarwood Christian girls’ basketball coach Jim Brown was selected to help coach the North team in the girls’ basketball game July 15 at 6 p.m. at Spragins Hall on the University of Alabama in Huntsville campus.
