High school volleyball roundup: Spain Park tops Clay-Chalkville in season opener

Spain Park High School defeated Clay-Chalkville 25-12, 25-15, 25-18 in its season opener Aug. 19.
Katie Best led the Jaguars (1-0) with nine kills. Best also added a team-high 10 digs and five blocks.
Kylie Beaubien added eight kills. Kendall Carlis led Spain Park with eight blocks. McKenna McLain finished with seven digs and a team-high 17 assists.
Mary Grace Drum finished with five assists and two service aces.
Calera defeats Shelby County in season opener
Calera (1-0) opened the 2010 season with a 25-21, 23-25, 25-20, 25-18 win over rival Shelby County, which fell to 0-1.
Chelsea sweeps Childersburg
Emily Handley recorded seven kills and nine service aces to lead Chelsea to a 25-7, 25-18, 25-6 in the Hornets’ season opener Aug. 19 at Childersburg.
Samantha Colyer added two kills and six aces. Jesse Vohler led the Hornets (1-0) with 20 assists and added three kills.
Montevallo sweeps Jemison
Montevallo (1-0) opened the season with a 25-22, 25-23, 25-18 win on the road at Jemison.
Kingwood Christian sweeps East Memorial
Casey Whitmer led the Lions (1-0) with six kills and seven service aces in a 25-12, 25-15, 25-11 win over East Memorial.
Karley Chamblee led Kingwood with 12 assists and finished with three aces. Miller Opper recorded seven aces and four kills.
Evangel Christian wins season opener against T.H.E.
Mariah Lawrence led defending Alabama Christian Sports Conference champion Evangel (1-0) with 16 assists and two kills in a 25-22, 25-22, 25-21 sweep of the Tuscaloosa Home Educators.
Meghyn Byrd finished with nine service aces and eight digs. Kate Foster recorded 11 assists, six digs and five service aces.
Pelham swept by St. Paul’s
Porsha Tolbert led Pelham (0-1) with four kills in the Panthers’ 25-12, 25-16, 25-22 season-opening loss to St. Paul’s.
Sydney Days finished with 10 assists for the Panthers.
Thompson falls to Gardendale
Hailey Schatz led the Warriors (0-1) with seven kills in a 25-12, 25-20, 25-21 loss to Gardendale.
Haley Davenport added six kills.
