Kingwood falls on the road at Bessemer Academy

The Kingwood Christian School football team dropped an Alabama Independent Schools Association Class 3A, Region 2 game Sept. 10 following a 49-14 loss on the road at Bessemer Academy.

Bessemer Academy scored the first two touchdowns in the game to take a 13-0 lead midway through the second quarter. The Lions finall got on the scoreboard midway through the second quarter after senior wide receiver Jordan Myers reeled in a 42-yard touchdown reception from senior quarterback Kevin Woody.

The 42-yard scoring play temporarily cut the Rebels’ lead to 13-6 after Kingwood failed to convert a running play for the two-point conversion.

Bessemer Academy scored another touchdown late in the second quarter to take a 21-6 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Rebels added to the lead with two touchdowns each in the third and fourth quarters.

The Lions scored their second and final touchdown of the game in the fourth quarter following a 15-yard scoring run by senior running back Tyrone Pope. Pope ran it in for the two-point conversion to cut the lead to 49-14.

Pope led Kingwood with 140 rushing yards and a touchdown on 23 atttempts.

Kingwood, which dropped to 2-2 overall and 0-2 in AISA Class 3A, Region 2, travels to Evangel Christian Academy in Montgomery for a non-region game Sept. 17.
