Riverchase football 2-1 after loss to Moody

The Riverchase Middle School football team recorded a dominating shutout in its second regular-season game, but had trouble the next week with an out-of-county opponent.

The Panthers dropped Calera Middle School 36-0 in a home game Sept. 2, giving Riverchase a 2-0 record in its division.

During the game, quarterback Hunter Stovall completed nine of 11 passes, including one touchdown pass. Stovall also recorded six carries for 136 yards and three rushing touchdowns.

Offensive standouts were Taylor Petty with four carries for 21 yards, Zach Allison with three receptions for 32 yards and one touchdown and J.T. Kepler with three receptions for 20 yards. Jalen Smith also caught a 3-yard pass from Stovall and ran it 91 yards for a touchdown.

Defensive standouts were Desmond Kersh, who led the team in tackles, Kem Murak, Cory Dodson, Austin Barclay and Kenny Hoover.

The next week, the Panthers recorded their first loss of the season at Moody Middle School. Despite putting up 315 total yards of offense, the Panthers fell to the Blue Devils 38-13.

Stovall completed 17 of 22 passes for 222 yards and two touchdowns, both of which were made by Petty. However, Riverchase gained fewer than 100 yards on the ground in the loss.

Offensive standouts in the game were Mason Whitman, Allison, P.C. Benton and Kepler.

RMS will face Clanton Middle School in its fourth regular-season game.
