High school cross country roundup: Spain Park girls win Invitational

The Spain Park High School girls’ cross country team won the Jaguars’ Invitational 5K race Sept. 18 at Veterans Park in Hoover.
Madeline Held won the girls’ race with her time of 20:31.15 to pace the Jaguars.
Teammate Kristen Spence finished fifth in the individual standings with her time of 21:51.09. Katie Bailey of Spain Park finished 13th overall with her time of 23:27.32 and teammate Grace Connolly came in 14th overall with her time of 23:33.11.
Anna Puckett of Thompson finished eighth overall with her time 22:51.73 to lead the Warriors to a sixth-place finish in team standings. Pelham, which was led by Briana Gunn who came in 11th overall with her time of 23:23.00, placed seventh overall in the team standings.
Cheyenne Thompson of Chelsea finished 17th overall with her time of 23:43.84. The Hornets came in ninth in the team standings. Indian Springs, led by Erin McMinn who finished 21st overall with her time of 24:10.70, finished 12th in the team standings.
The Spain Park boys finished second overall in team standings in the boys’ 5K race.
Brandon Hazouri led the Jaguars with his time of 17:19.63, which placed him second overall in the individual standings.
Teammate Steven Crain finished fourth overall with his time of 18:13.08. Jordan Strong of Spain Park finished 11th overall with his time of 19:04.55.
Mason Webber of Pelham finished 12th overall with his time of 19:05.10. The Panthers placed eighth overall in the team standings.
Thompson’s Michael Johnson paced the Warriors, who came in 10th in the team standings, with his time of 19:53.36 to finish 29th overall in the individual standings.
Matt Hobbs of Chelsea finished 46th overall with his time of 20:34.61. The Hornets came in 13th in the team standings.
Joseph Fisher paced Indian Springs, which finished 15th in the team standings.
Oak Mountain boys finish third at Crimson Classic
The Oak Mountain High School boys’ cross country team finished third in the team standings in the University of Alabama’s Crimson Classic at the Harry Pritchard Running Course in Tuscaloosa.
Travis Rocha led the Eagles in the 5K race with his time of 17:43.60, which placed him 14th overall in the individual standings.
Caleb Mintz of Oak Mountain came in 15th overall with his time of 17:44.10 and teammate Will Hamaker finished 16th overall with his time of 17:51.40.
The Oak Mountain girls finished sixth overall in the girls’ 5K race team standings.
Heather Comensky led the Eagles with her time of 22:24.40, which placed her 28th overall in the individual standings.
