High school cross country roundup: Shelby County runner finishes second at TCBY Invitational

Shelby County High School cross country runner Jacqueline Head finished second overall in the 5K girls race Sept. 25 at the TCBY Invitational at Sokol Park in Tuscaloosa.

Head, running as an invididual along with two other Shelby County runners, posted a time of 20:01.75 to claim the runner-up spot in the field of 50 runners.

Teammate Brookelynn Smith finished 18th overall with her time of 25:47.61. Angel Reis of Shelby County finished 21st overall.

Westminster School at Oak Mountain was the top Shelby County team in the 5K girls race, as the Knights finished third in team standings.

Morgan Reynolds led Westminster with her fifth-place finish in individual standings with her time of 21:54.28. The Knights’ Holland Gurley and Sarah Linder finished 23rd and 24th overall, respectively.

The Westminster boys finished sixth in the team standings in the 5K boys race. The Knights’ Adam Dunkerley claimed fifth-place overall with his time of 18:00.03.

Noah Thompson of Westminster finished 15th overall. Wally Morris of Shelby County, running as an individual, finished 44th overall.

Pelham runner wins girls race at Gulf Coast Cross Country Stampede

Mary Grace Strozier of Pelham claimed the 5K girls title at the Gulf Coast Cross Country Stampede in Pensacola, Fla.

Strozier, who finished with a time of 20:51.90, helped the Panthers post a second-place finish in team standings.

Teammate Brianna Gunn finished fourth overall with her time of 21:55.10. Erin Landa of Pelham finished 10th overall with her time of 22:27.40.

Thompson claimed fourth in girls’ team standings. The Warriors’ Anna Puckett finished eighth overall with her time of 22:05.10. Michaela Graber of Thompson finished 12th overall with her time of 22:38.10.

The Thompson boys finished ninth in team standings in the 5K boys race. The Warriors’ Michael Johnson came in 24th overall in individual standings with his time of 18:46.00.

Pelham finished 11th overall in team standings. Mason Webber led the Panthers as he finished 11th in individual standings with his time of 18:12.20.

Briarwood girls finish sixth at Chattanooga Cross Country Festival

Mary Catherine Ellard led the Briarwood girls in the 5K girls race at the Chattanooga (Tenn.) Cross Country Festival with a sixth-place finish following her time of 21:45.87, which helped the Lions finish sixth in the girls’ team standings.

Kimberly Galloway of Briarwood finished 38th overall. Varina Hart came in three spots behind Galloway at 41st overall in individual standings.

Briarwood finished 10th in team standings in the 5K boys race.

Ramsay Ritchie led the Lions with his time of 17:40.95, which placed him ninth overall in individual standings.Trey Long of Briarwood finished 55th overall in individual standings.

Indian Springs teams compete at Kudzu Hills Invite

The Indian Springs School boys finished 13th in the 5K boys race team standings at the Kudzu Hills Invite at Cold Springs High School in Bremen.

William Rushton of Indian Springs posted his team’s best time as he finished 39th overall with his time of 20:37.46. Joseph Fisher finished 72nd overall in individual standings.

The Indian Springs girls finished 10th in the 5K girls race team standings.

Emily Williams of Indian Springs came in 52nd overall with her time of 26:57.88. Teammate Sarah Noone finished one spot back at 53rd overall with her time of 26:58.08.
