Riverchase wins middle school volleyball tournament

The Riverchase Middle School volleyball team won the Southern Conference championship held at Helena Middle School on Oct. 2.

The championship is the third consecutive Southern Conference title for the Panthers. Riverchase went undefeated in conference play with a record of 16-0 and finished the season with an overall record of 24-2.

Emily Jackson, Hilda Mondragon and Autumn Wild were selected to the all-tournament team. Wild was also named as the tournament’s most valuable player.

The Southern Conference was previously known as the Shelby County League and is comprised of middle schools from Riverchase, Helena, Calera, Chelsea, Columbiana, Briarwood and John Carroll.

The Riverchase volleyball team is coached by Polly Jones and assistant coach Lynn Mayes. Team members include Jordan Allison, Hayley Brisendine, Eanjle Browder, Autumn Brown, Erykah Hall, Josie Harwood, Emily Jackson, Madison Ledford, Maira Martinez, Hilda Mondragon, Emily Murray, Danielle Sanders, Sarah Sudd, Clarissa Wakeford, Autumn Wild and Monica Palma.
