Oak Mountain wins region title

The Oak Mountain High School volleyball team defeated Vestavia Hills in the championship match of the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 6A, Region C tournament Oct. 16.
The Eagles (54-18) will host Hewitt-Trussville High School in a sub-state match Oct. 21 in the next round of the Class 6A playoffs.
Senior Samantha Skinner was named the Class 6A, Region C tournament’s most valuable player. Junior Sara Goodwin joined Skinner on the all-tournament team.
Skinner led host Oak Mountain with 26 kills in the Eagles’ 25-22, 25-18, 19-25, 25-16 win over Vestavia Hills in the championship match.
Skinner added five blocks, six digs and a service ace in the tournament final.
Goodwin added 10 kills, four blocks and a team-high 14 digs. Emily Cosgrove chipped in six kills, seven digs and a service ace. Marisa Reese totaled 10 digs.
Chelsea Payne recorded a team-high 43 assists to go along with six digs and a service ace in the championship match.
The Eagles swept Minor 25-6, 25-10, 25-17 in the Class 6A, Region C tournament semifinals to seal home-court advantage in the sub-state round of the playoffs.
Skinner led Oak Mountain with 15 kills and four digs in the win.
Lauren Dasher added seven kills. Ashton Slawinski and Cosgrove recorded six kills each. Cosgrove added six digs.
Payne finished with a team-high 37 assists to go along with three digs and two service aces.
Oak Mountain defeated Mountain Brook 25-19, 25-16, 17-25, 25-12 in the Class 6A, Region C tournament quarterfinals to seal a spot in the sub-state round of the playoffs.
Skinner recorded 18 kills, six blocks and five digs in the victory.
Cosgrove chipped in 10 kills, two blocks and four digs. Goodwin registered nine kills and seven digs. Hannah Beach finished with eight kills, six digs and two service aces.
Reese recorded a team-high 12 digs. Payne totaled a team-high 41 assists to go along with three blocks, three digs and two service aces.
