Lonnie T. “Tom” Mitchell, 91, a resident of Shelby, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010 at the V.A. Hospital in Birmingham. Chapel service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2010, at Bolton Funeral Home, Columbiana. Bro. Howard Brasher and Bro. Gary Tankersley officiated. Burial followed in Beaver Creek Cemetery. Visitation was held on Monday, Oct. 11 from 6-8 p.m. at Bolton Funeral Home, Columbiana.
Mr. Mitchell was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in WW II and was a disabled veteran. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Faye Mitchell; father and mother, Joseph and Lena Mitchell; three brothers, Jody Mitchell, Johnny Mitchell and Pete Mitchell; two sisters, Ola Luquire and Treasa Jones. Mr. Mitchell is survived by his sons, Tommy Wayne Mitchell, Douglas Earl Mitchell and Rudy Lonnie Mitchell; daughter, Joyce Faye Mitchell and Paula Faye Porter; sisters, Majorie Goldenbaski; brothers, Jack (Virginia) Mitchell, J.D. Mitchell, James (Martha) Mitchell, Bobby (Shirley) Mitchell and Charles Lee Mitchell; 11 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
