Kingwood misses playoffs following loss

The Kingwood Christian School football team fell just short of an Alabama Independent Schools Association Class 3A playoff appearance following a 28-20 loss on the road Oct. 22 at Tuscaloosa Academy.
The Lions needed a win over Tuscaloosa Academy to clinch a playoff berth.
Tyrone Pope led Kingwood with two touchdowns in the loss.
Pope got Kingwood on the board with his 96-yard kickoff return for a touchdown with 8:34 left in the first half. Dalton Sparks converted the 2-point conversion on a running play.
David Fillingim reeled in a 33-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Kevin Woody with 4:38 remaining in the first half.
Pope capped the scoring for Kingwood with his touchdown run in the third quarter.
Kingwood rushed for 158 yards in the loss.
Woody rushed for 145 yards on 21 carries and completed 11-of-20 passes for 159 yards, which put him across the 1,000-yard rushing and passing mark this season.
Woody, who led the Lions with 12 tackles, also threw three interceptions in the loss.
Jordan Myers caught six passes for 58 yards. Fillingim finished with two catches for 62 yards and a score.
Kingwood closes the 2010 season by hosting Lee-Scott Academy in a non-region contest Oct. 28.
