Ruth Harrison Gaddy was born in Barnstown on March 13, 1918 to Hicks and Evie Sanders Harrison, the sixth of 12 siblings.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Sidney Allen Gaddy and was a resident in Wilton for 40 years.

She is survived by her only child, Glenda Gaddy Terrell Cairns and her husband Tad of Montevallo; four grandchildren and their spouses, Jim and Sharon Terrell of Alabaster, LaJeana Terrell of Loxley, Phil and Meg Terrell Carstensen of Calera, Jason and Jenny Terrell Epperson of Brierfield; five great- grandchildren, Ryan and Marly Terrell of Alabaster, Lauren Terrell of Loxley, Emma and Neeley Carstensen of Calera; brother, Horace Harrison, of Pleasant Grove; sister-in-law, Frances Gaddy Simmons of Wilton; several nieces and nephews; and a host of loyal friends.

Special thanks are extended to the staff and residents at Knowlwood Assisted Living for their loving care, attention and friendship; to the staff of Family Comfort Hospice, who assisted in her care during her latter days with her medical and personal needs while providing emotional support and guidance both to Ruth and her family; to Dr. Alred and her staff who, over decades, tended to her medical needs promptly, patiently and professionally.

Her greatest accomplishments were taking care of others. She enjoyed cooking and serving good food to anyone that came by. She gave generously of herself and her possessions.

In 2009 Wilton Baptist Church, where she served faithfully, presented to her a certificate as the oldest living member dating back to 1948.

Because so many of you, her friends, visited her, sent cards and gave her flowers while she was living, at this time, in lieu of flowers feel free to contribute to the charity of your choice.

Visitation was held at Rockco Funeral Home, Montevallo, Monday, October 25, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. Graveside services were held Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at Shelby Memory Gardens, Calera, with Bro.
