Six Falcons named to All-Academic team

The University of Montevallo men’s soccer team was awarded six spots on the Peach Belt Conference All-Academic team, including Spain Park graduate Vance Curro.

The Montevallo women’s soccer team was awarded one spot on the PBC All-Academic team. Three players were selected honorable mention.

Curro and fellow junior Stephen Beatty, along with seniors Alex Ghoja, Daniel Pelletier, Milan Pualic and James Steer were each named to the PBC All-Academic team. Montevallo was tops among Peach Belt schools with six members on the team.

Curro has the highest grade point average among the team members with his 3.74 GPA in marketing.

Beatty has a 3.46 GPA in management, Ghoja has a 3.34 GPA in kinesiology, Pelletier has a 3.35 GPA in marketing, Pualic has a 3.54 GPA in marketing and Steer has a 3.57 GPA in marketing.

Senior Alex Terhar of the Montevallo women’s team was named to the PBC All-Academic team. Junior Denise Mannion, sophomore Alyssa Maxwell and sophomore Paige Scott were given honorable mention.

Terhar has a 3.67 GPA in chemistry. Mannion has a 3.36 GPA in kinesiology, Maxwell has a 3.45 GPA in biology and Scott has a 3.77 GPA in general studies.

The team is part of a season-long program recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of PBC student-athletes in the classroom as well as on the field. To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must participate in at least half of his/her team’s events and be either a starter or significant contributor, achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution.

The Falcons (16-2-1) will face Clayton State University in the Peach Belt Conference tournament semifinals Nov. 5 in Evans, Ga. The Montevallo women’s team ended its season with a loss to UNC-Pembroke in the opening round of the PBC tournament Nov. 2.
