MONTEVALLO — University of Montevallo graduate Stephen E. Condrey was recently appointed to a key administrative role for the White House.

President Barack Obama appointed Condrey, along with six others, on Nov. 9. Condrey was named Chairman of the Federal Salary Council.

“These impressive individuals bring a wealth of knowledge and tremendous dedication to their new roles,” Obama said. “I am confident that they will serve the American people well, and I look forward to working with them in the months and years ahead.”

According to UM administrators, Condrey received his bachelor’s degree from the university in 1978. He went on to receive a master’s in public administration from the University of Tennessee, and a doctorate in public administration from the University of Georgia.

Condrey is currently a senior associate and director of the Carl Vinson Institute of Government’s human resource management assistance program and is an adjunct professor of public administration at the University of Georgia’s School of Public and International Affairs.

He has over 25 years of professional experience in human resource management and has consulted nationally and internationally with over 500 organizations concerning personnel-related issues.

Condrey lives in Montevallo with his wife, Samantha Webb, who is an associate professor of English at UM. Webb said he plans to commute to Washington D.C. for his new position as needed, but will not be required to be there
