High school basketball roundup: Oak Mountain tops Thompson in semifinals

The Oak Mountain High School girls’ basketball team defeated Thompson 50-40 in the semifinals of the Shelby County tournament Dec. 20.
The Eagles will face Briarwood Christian in the championship game Dec. 21 at 4:30 p.m.
Mackenzie Garmany led the Eagles (11-2) with 13 points.
Madison Pierce added 11 points. Hannah Griffin finished with 10 points. Lay Watts contributed seven points.
Asia Anchrum led the Warriors (7-6) with 15 points.
Chelsea Taylor and KaDeisha Stowes chipped in seven points each.
Briarwood Christian edges Shelby County in semifinals
The Briarwood Christian School girls’ basketball team edged Shelby County 63-56 in the semifinals of the Shelby County tournament Dec. 20 at BankTrust Arena on the University of Montevallo campus.
Anna Handlin led the Lions (12-3) with 18 points.
Cara Medders and Abbie Cutcliffe added 16 points each. Meredith Botes chipped in eight points.
Alexis Lewis led Shelby County (11-2) with 18 points.
Aulicia Nunn chipped in 17 points. Alysia Perkins finished with 12 points. Hallie Brown contributed seven points.
Spain Park falls to Brewbaker Tech in tournament
The Spain Park High School girls’ basketball team fell to Brewbaker Tech 75-50 on Dec. 20 in the Big Orange Classic at Hoover High School.
Kathryn Boswell led the Jaguars (9-5) with 13 points.
Spain Park defeats Parker in tournament opener
The Spain Park High School girls’ basketball team defeated Parker 88-21 on Dec. 20 in the Big Orange Classic.
Colby Ryan led Spain Park with 19 points.
Coosa Valley defeats Kingwood Christian
The Coosa Valley Academy girls’ basketball team defeat Kingwood Christian 56-48 on Dec. 20.
Jordan Smiley led the Rebels (7-1) with 16 points. Smiley also grabbed 11 rebounds.
Kaylyn Rich added 15 points and 15 rebounds. Lauren Archer and Amelia Ripley contributed 12 points each.
Whitney Gillespie led the Lions (4-10) with a game-high 22 points.
Briarwood Christian defeats Oak Mountain in semifinals
The Briarwood Christian School boys’ basketball team clinched a spot in the Shelby County tournament championship game following a 43-41 win in overtime over Oak Mountain on Dec. 20.
The Lions will face Thompson in the championship game Dec. 21 at 6 p.m.
Jason Laatsch led the Lions (11-2) with 13 points.
James Palmer added 12 points. Justin Bice and Devin Bowman chipped in five points each.
Garrett Cosgrove led Oak Mountain (7-5) with 18 points.
Taylor Kral added eight points. Bert Seitz finished with seven points.
Vincent defeats Montevallo
The Vincent High School boys’ basketball team defeated Montevallo 55-26 in a consolation game Dec. 20 at the Shelby County tournament.
Anterio Rogers led the Yellow Jackets (9-4) with 13 points. Rogers also grabbed six rebounds and dished out five assists.
Bruce Hamilton added 12 points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Ben McKinney contributed 11 points, four rebounds and three assists.
Anthony Whitehead led Montevallo (2-6) with nine points.
Garrius Chappell added seven points.
Pelham takes down Shelby County
The Pelham High School boys’ basketball team defeated Shelby County 82-55 in a consolation game Dec. 20 at the Shelby County tournament.
Alec Rash led the Panthers (3-7) with 18 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the floor. Rash also grabbed five rebounds.
Tanner Rice added 16 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Rice hit 4-of-7 field goals and finished 8-of-10 at the charity stripe.
Tony Williams chipped in 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. Williams also dished out a team-high four assists and recorded four steals. Tyler Minyard finished with eight points on 4-of-6 shooting.
Ty Lollar led Shelby County (3-8) with a game-high 36 points. Lollar hit 10-of-21 field goals, including 5-of-10 from beyond the arc. Lollar hit 11-of-16 free throws.
Tre Cohill added 12 points on 5-of-7 field goals. Cohill also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
Spain Park falls to Bessemer City in tournament opener
The Spain Park High School boys’ basketball team fell to Bessemer City 36-33 on Dec. 20 in its opener in the ADT Jaguars Classic.
Rembert Martin and Mitchell Holt led the Jaguars (7-5) with nine points each.
Wesminster falls to Winterboro in tournament
The Westminster School at Oak Mountain boys’ basketball team fell to Winterboro 42-33 in the championship game of the Verbena Christmas tournament Dec. 20.
Jake Doggett led the Knights (7-8) with 15 points. Doggett also grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.
Michael Stanford added nine points. Adam Gurley chipped in five points. Richard Robey finished with two points and eight rebounds.
Kingwood Christian defeats Coosa Valley
The Kingwood Christian School boys’ basketball team defeated Coosa Valley 50-42 on Dec. 20.
Daniel Fillingim led the Lions (9-6) with 14 points.
Madison Webb added nine points. Charles Pope chipped in eight points and a team-high 14 rebounds.
Jordan Myers finished with five points, five rebounds and six assists. David Fillingim contributed two points and 10 rebounds.
John Bullen led Coosa Valley (2-7) with 12 points.
Steven Cryer added eight points.
