Thompson wrestlers battle to a tie with Vestavia Hills

The Thompson High School wrestling team, in its fifth varsity season, went head-to-head with Vestavia Hills, the most accomplished wrestling program in the state, and came away with a 33-33 tie Jan. 5 against the Rebels.

Seven Warriors won their individual matches against their Vestavia Hills opponents.

Reed Jacks of Thompson earned a decision over the Rebels’ Will Knox in the 119-pound match. The Warriors’ Brewer Gilliland pinned Josh Brown of Vestavia Hills in the 130-pound match.

Thompson’s Cody Albarado pinned the Rebels’ Adam Brookins in 135-pound action. Thompson 145-pounder John Austin (J.A.) Jones earned a pin against Will Glenn of Vestavia Hills.

Nick Hall of Thompson pinned Vestavia Hills’ Jack Nelson in the 152-pound match. The Warriors’ Jesse Masters pinned Dalton Campbell of Vestavia Hills in the 189-pound match.

Jimmy Miller of Thompson earned a decision over Jose Casanova of Vestavia Hills in the 215-pound match.
