The National Weather Service in Birmingham is forecasting between 2 and 6 inches of snowfall in Shelby County between Sunday morning and Monday afternoon.

A winter storm warning is in effect until 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 10, according to a NWS release late Sunday morning.

The storm could also bring a tenth of an inch of ice accumulation through the area, according to the NWS.

“The snow will likely transition into light freezing rain and sleet across the area later tonight and continue through Monday,” the release read. “Accumulations of snow and ice could very well damage trees and power lines.”
