High school basketball roundup: Spain Park takes down Shades Valley

The Spain Park High School boys’ basketball team defeated Shades Valley 50-33 in high school basketball action Jan. 15.

Alex Close led the Jaguars (16-7) with a game-high 13 points.

Rembert Martin added 11 points. Mitchell Holt contributed 10 points in the victory.

Briarwood Christian defeats Hueytown

The Briarwood Christian School boys’ basketball team defeated Hueytown 59-52 on Jan. 15.

Jason Laatsch led the Lions (18-6) with 24 points.

Luke Collins added 11 points in the victory.

Kingwood Christian defeats Pike Liberal Academy

The Kingwood Christian School boys’ basketball team defeated Pike Liberal Academy 46-36 on Jan. 15.

Andrew Whitfield led the Lions (12-8) with 12 points.

Ben Littrell added 10 points in the victory.

Evangel Christian drops first game of season against Evangel Family

The Evangel Christian School boys’ basketball team dropped its first game of the season Jan. 15 following a 75-70 loss to Evangel Family Christian Academy.

DaJon Townson led the Lightning (10-1) with a season-high 34 points. Townson also finished with seven steals and four assists.

Aaron Walker added 12 points and a team-high 12 rebounds to finish with a double-double. Mark Underwood chipped in nine points. Marcus Johnson contributed six points.

GIRLS

Briarwood Christian downs Hueytown

The Briarwood Christian School girls’ basketball team defeated Hueytown 61-20 on Jan. 15.

Hannah Wainwright led the Lions (19-3) with a game-high 14 points.

Abbie Cutcliffe added 11 points and dished out five assists. Anna Handlin contributed 10 points in the victory.

Calera defeats Oak Grove

The Calera High School girls’ basketball team defeated Oak Grove 32-31 in a Class 4A, Area 8 contest Jan. 15.

Jennifer Hobby led the Eagles (2-10 overall, 1-3 in Class 4A, Area 8 ) with 12 points.

A’Kia Harris added seven points. Brittney Files chipped in six points.

Kingwood Christian defeats Pike Liberal Academy

The Kingwood Christian School girls’ basketball team defeated Pike Liberal Academy 33-17 on Jan. 15.

Whitney Gillespie led the Lions (6-12) with 11 points. Gillespie also grabbed eight rebounds and recorded seven steals.

Madelyn Pearce chipped in six points and a team-high nine rebounds in the victory.

Evangel Christian defeats Evangel Family

The Evangel Christian School girls’ basketball team defeated Evangel Family Christian Academy 52-34 in an Alabama Christian Sports Conference contest Jan. 15.

Abby Letson led the Lightning (11-0 overall, 8-0 in Alabama Christian Sports Conference) with 26 points. Letson also grabbed a team-high 14 rebounds to finish with a double-double.

Katherine Stockman added 14 points and seven rebounds in the victory.
