The Thompson High School wrestling team finished runner-up in the Grissom Duals event Jan. 15.

The Warriors recorded victories over Sparkman, Opelika and Cordova (Tenn.) in pool matches. Thompson defeated Bob Jones in the semifinals before falling to the host Tigers in the championship match.

Oak Mountain picked up victories over Brookwood, Muscle Shoals and Pell City, while suffering a loss to Buckhorn, in pool matches before falling to Grissom in the semifinal round.

Six Thompson wrestlers won their individual matches in a 40-24 loss to Grissom in the championship round.

Matthew Gilson earned a 2-0 decision over Alec Cohen in the 112-pound match. Reed Jacks picked up a 5-1 decision over Austin Holt in the 119-pound match.

DeMario Haynes pinned Trevor Edwards in 125-pound action. Brewer Gilliland earned a 5-0 decision over Samuel Cannon in the 130-pound match.

Franklin Hayden pinned Daniel Irelan in the 135-pound match. John Austin (J.A.) Jones pinned Kyle Miller in the 145-pound match.

The Warriors defeated Bob Jones 39-31 in the semifinals. Seven Thompson wrestlers won their individual matches against Bob Jones.

Conner Gilson pinned Ryan Clark in the 103-pound match. Matthew Gilson pinned Griffin Ridgeway in the 112-pound match.

Jacks earned a 5-3 decision over Jesse Webster in 119-pound action. Haynes pinned Blake Rogers in the 125-pound match.

Gilliland pinned Josh Hill in the 130-pound match. Jones pinned Michael Matice in 145-pound action.

Jimmy Miller pinned Melvin Gibbons in the 215-pound match.

Thompson wrestlers won 13 of 14 individual matches in the Warriors’ 78-6 win over Sparkman.

Conner Gilson pinned Patrick Anderson in the 103-pound match. Matthew Gilson pinned Brad Wolfe in the 112-pound match.

Jacks Pinned Antonio in the 119-pound match. Haynes pinned Sam Stiles in the 125-pound match. Gilliland pinned Thomas Webb in the 130-pound match. Franklin pinned Michael Webb in the 135-pound match. Chris Lloyd pinned Timothy Edwards in 140-pound action.

Jones pinned Micah McGlathery in 145-pound action. Trey Berryhill pinned Jonathan Downey in the 152-pound match.

Cahman Holder won his 160-pound match by forfeit. Jesse Masters pinned Gabriel Southernland in the 189-pound match.

Miller pinned Dylon Tyree in the 215-pound match. David Capers pinned Robert Haynes in the heavyweight match.

Nine Thompson wrestlers recorded individual victories in the Warriors’ 54-24 win over Opelika.

Jacks pinned Alex Tran in 119-pound action. Haynes pinned Demond Pullam in the 125-pound match.

Jones pinned Tristan Scoggins in the 145-pound match. Masters pinned Xavier Drake in the 189-pound match.

Miller pinned Mitchell Mowery in the 215-pound match. Gilliland, Franklin, Berryhill and Holder each won by forfeit against Opelika.

Thompson defeated Cordova (Tenn.) 54-13 in pool play. Ten Warriors won their individual matches, including Conner Gilson, Matthew Gilson, Jacks, Haynes, Gilliland, Franklin, Jones, Masters, Millers and Capers.

Oak Mountain falls in semifinal round at Grissom Duals

Oak Mountain fell to Grissom 40-21 in the semifinals. Four Eagles won their individual matches against Grissom.

Jared Godfrey earned a 3-2 decision over Edwards in 125-pound action. Jacob (J.P.) Parker pinned Ireland in the 130-pound match.

Justin Woodall pinned Griffin in the 189-pound match. Matthew Wills won his 135-pound match by forfeit.

Oak Mountain defeated Muscle Shoals 59-18 in a pool match. Ten Eagles won their individual matches against Muscle Shoals.

John David (J.D.) Peden pinned his opponent in the 103-pound match. Godfrey pinned his 125-pound opponent.

Parker earned a pin in his 130-pound match. Wills pinned his 135-pound foe.

Angus McBee pinned his opponent in the 140-pound match. Vincent Kimbrough earned a 16-0 technical fall decision in his 152-pound match.

Jake Miller pinned his 160-pound opponent. Conrad McBee earned a pin in his 171-pound match.

Woodall pinned his opponent in the 189-pound match. Lloyd Time pinned his foe in the heavyweight match.
