High school wrestling roundup: Spain Park wrestlers swept in dual meet

The Spain Park High School wrestling team dropped matches against McAdory and host Mortimer Jordan in a dual meet Jan. 18.

The Jaguars dropped their opening match against McAdory 48-30. Six Spain Park wrestlers won their individual matches against McAdory.

Tommy Bostany of Spain Park pinned Travis Norris of McAdory in 4:26 in the 119-pound match. The Jaguars’ Brandon Stanley pinned McAdory’s Marcus Baltimore in 3:21 in the 140-pound match.

Blake Daniel of Spain Park pinned John Boykins of McAdory in 3:20 in the 160-pound match. Spain Park 189-pounder Mo Mills pinned Brandon Griffin of McAdory in 2:40.

Kameron Ricks of Spain Park pinned McAdory’s Tyler Holsomback in 4:35 in the 215-pound match. Alex Potts of Spain Park pinned Jonathan Lewis of McAdory in 1:30 in a 152-pound exhibition match.

Spain Park fell to host Mortimer Jordan 54-26. Five Jaguars won their individual matches against Mortimer Jordan.

Bostany earned a 9-7 decision over Travis Shelnutt of Mortimer Jordan in the 125-pound match. Spain Park’s Connor Whatley pinned Noah Brooks of Mortimer Jordan in 3:26 in the 130-pound match.

Daniel earned a 2-1 decision over Dillon Hawkins of Mortimer Jordan in the 160-pound match. Mills pinned Trevor Barber of Mortimer Jordan in 2:14 in the 189-pound match.

Ricks earned a pin in 16 seconds against Mortimer Jordan’s Cody Oliver in the 215-pound match.

Thompson takes down Shelby County in dual meet

The Thompson High School wrestling team defeated Shelby County 73-6 in a dual meet Jan. 18.

Nine Warriors won their individual matches against Shelby County. Four other Thompson wrestlers won by forfeit.

Matthew Johnson of Thompson pinned Shelby County’s Noah Dorough in the 103-pound match. The Warriors’ Hayden Franklin pinned Jonathan Perrine of Shelby County in the 135-pound match.

Cody Albarado of Thompson pinned Austin Poe of Shelby County in the 140-pound match. Thompson’s Wil Fondren earned a 14-3 major decision over Chase Weeks of Shelby County in the 145-pound match.

Keaton Wood of Shelby County pinned Jonathan Berry of Thompson in the 160-pound match. The Warriors’ Shane Evans pinned Shelby County’s Luke Miller in the 171-pound match.

Levi Springer of Thompson earned an 8-4 decision over Stephen Erhart of Shelby County in the 189-pound match. Thompson’s Jesse Masters pinned Joey Guthrie of Shelby County in the 215-pound match.

David Capers of Thompson pinned Shelby County’s Jacob Oliver in the heavyweight match.

Brandon Belser of Thompson won his 112-pound match by forfeit. Cody McDanal of Thompson won his 119-pound match by forfeit.

The Warriors’ Hunter Gatlin won his 125-pound match by forfeit. Colt Jones of Thompson won his 130-pound match by forfeit.

Jeffrey Hughes of Shelby County accounted for the Wildcats’ lone victory. Hughes pinned Trey Berryhill of Thompson in the 152-pound match.

Thompson also defeated Benjamin Russell 48-23 in the dual meet. Nine Warriors won their individual matches against Benjamin Russell.

Conner Gilson of Thompson pinned Cody Padgett of Benjamin Russell in the 103-pound match. Austin Gould of Thompson pinned Benjamin Russell’s Nathan Mitchell in the 112-pound match.

The Warriors’ Reed Jacks pinned LaJarret Ford of Benjamin Russell in the 119-pound match. DeMario Haynes of Thompson earned a 7-1 decision over Gavin Fuller  of Benjamin Russell in the 125-pound match.

Brewer Gilliland of Thompson pinned Connor Clark of Benjamin Russell in the 130-pound match. Albarado earned a 4-1 decision over Jacob Hill of Benjamin Russell in the 140-pound match.

Franklin won his 135-pound match by forfeit. Masters won his 215-pound match by forfeit. Capers won the heavyweight match by forfeit.

Shelby County fell to Benjamin Russell 65-12 in the dual meet. Two Shelby County wrestlers won their individual matches against Benjamin Russell.

Guthrie won his 215-pound match by forfeit. Oliver won his heavyweight match by forfeit.

Calera drops matches in meet at Leeds

The Calera High School wrestling team fell to American Christian Academy and host Leeds and finished in a tie with Homewood in a meet Jan. 18.

The Eagles recorded a 30-30 tie with Homewood. Five Calera wrestlers won their individual matches against Homewood.

Calera’s Jarrett Seiger pinned Tyrone Carr of Homewood in 1:55 in the 119-pound match. The Eagles’ Austin Dowdy pinned Homewood’s Noah Sanders in 2:34 in the 125-pound match.

Coby Mize of Calera pinned Homewood’s LaKeith Walker in 5:34 in the 152-pound match.

Keenan Agee of Calera won his 130-pound match by forfeit. The Eagles’ Kevin Murry won his 215-pound match by forfeit.

The Eagles fell to American Christian 42-36. Six Calera wrestlers won their individual matches against American Christian.

Mize pinned Patrick Davis of American Christian in 1:10 in the 152-pound match. Calera’s Cody Thomaston pinned American Christian’s Aaron Kirkley in 1:35 in the 160-pound match.

Danny Diaz of Calera pinned Logan Elliott of American Christian in 4:20 in the heavyweight match.

Seiger won his 119-pound match by forfeit. Dowdy won his 125-pound match by forfeit.

Calera dropped its match against host Leeds 42-27. Five Eagles won their individual matches against Leeds.

Seiger pinned Leeds’ David Adkins in 4:30 the 119-pound match. Calera’s Shawn O’Neill pinned Drake Schofield of Leeds in 1:20 in the 140-pound match.

Mize earned a 9-5 decision over Leeds’ Brian Shockley in the 152-pound match. Murry pinned Dylan Cook of Leeds in 2:10 in the 215-pound match.

Diaz won his heavyweight match by forfeit.
