The Calera High School boys’ basketball team defeated rival Montevallo 78-38 in high school basketball action Jan. 21.

Deondre Haynes led the Eagles (16-5) with a game-high 14 points.

Jeremy Hyde added 11 points. Ronnie Clark and Blayne Sumrall contributed 10 points each in the victory.

Garrius Chappell led the Bulldogs (4-13) with 12 points.

Demetrouse Conwell added 10 points in the defeat.

GIRLS

The Montevallo High School girls’ basketball team defeated rival Calera 48-25 in high school basketball action Jan. 21.

Amber Cardwell led the Bulldogs (9-7) with a game-high 22 points. Cardwell also grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds to finish with a double-double.

A’Kia Harris and Kayla Brown led Calera (2-13) with eight points each in the defeat.
