Briarwood Christian clinches area title with win over Sylacauga

The Briarwood Christian School girls’ basketball team defeated Sylacauga 64-54 to clinch the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 5A, Area 7 championship Jan. 28.
Anna Handlin led the Lions (22-4 overall, 7-1 in Class 5A, Area 7) with 20 points. Handlin also grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds to finish with a double-double.
Hannah Wainwright added 15 points. Abbie Cutcliffe contributed 12 points in the victory.
Briarwood Christian, which owns a 23-1 record in area games during the past three seasons, will host the Class 5A, Area 7 tournament next month.
