Briarwood suffers first home loss against Hewitt-Trussville

The Briarwood Christian School girls’ basketball team suffered its first home loss of the season following a 48-41 loss in overtime to visiting Hewitt-Trussville in high school basketball action Feb. 5.
Anna Handlin led the Lions (24-5) with 15 points. Handlin also grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds to finish with a double-double, which gave her a school record 18th career double-double.
Abbie Cutcliffe added 11 points and four steals. Meredith Botes chipped in six points and 10 rebounds in the defeat.
Briarwood Christian erased a seven-point deficit in the fourth quarter and kept Hewitt-Trussville from getting a shot off on its final possession to send the game into overtime.
However, Hewitt-Trussville scored on its opening possession in overtime and held the Lions scoreless in the extra period.
