In a game that lasted just one hour and 45 minutes, the University of Montevallo baseball team downed Young Harris College 3-2 to finish off a three-game series sweep Feb. 6.

The game featured only 10 total hits and five runs scored. Young Harris College pitcher Josh Rudnik carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning and Montevallo pitcher Will Dismukes pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts.

Montevallo freshman Pablo Martell provided a game-winning two-run double for the Falcons (3-2) in the seventh inning.

Junior catcher Blaine Rosenberg, an Oak Mountain graduate, provided the only other RBI for the Falcons on a sacrifice fly. The Falcons finished with four hits in the game, including one hit each from junior Duston Daugherty, junior Heath Peterson, junior Josh Headley and Martell. Peterson and Martell each had a double, while Daugherty and Headley finished with a single each.

Dismukes struck out seven batters and didn’t allow a walk in nine innings. Dismukes gave up six hits and two earned runs.

The Falcons were held without a hit for the first 6 1/3 innings as Rudnik pitched a gem for the Mountain Lions. The Mountain Lions struck first in the sixth inning, as three hits and a pair of Montevallo errors led to two Young Harris College runs.

The Montevallo bats came alive in the seventh inning, as Peterson lined a one-out double to left-center field to break up the no-hitter. Headley then singled to move Peterson to third base. Senior Josh Dabbs was hit by a pitch to load the bases with just one out on the scoreboard.

A sacrifice fly to center field by Rosenberg scored Peterson and moved everyone else up a base. Martell then stepped up and hit a two-out, two-run double down the right-field line to score Headley and Dabbs.

Dismukes held the Mountain Lions hitless over the final two innings and recorded two of his seven strikeouts in the final two frames. The game eventually ended on a double play with Dubberly feeding the ball to Martell, who swung it over to Peterson to record the final out.
