Shelby County ends season with loss to Talladega

NORTH SHELBY — The Shelby County High School girls’ basketball team saw its season come to an end following a 50-32 loss to Talladega in the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 5A, Area 7 tournament semifinals Feb. 10 at Briarwood Christian School.

Aulicia Nunn and Alexis Lewis led the Wildcats (17-6) with 13 points each.

Alysia Perkins added four points. Amber Johnson contributed two points in the defeat.

Talladega led 30-23 heading into the locker room at halftime in the semifinal contest.

The Wildcats cut the lead to 32-28 midway through the third quarter following a 3-pointer by Nunn. Talladega extended its lead to 37-28 heading into the fourth quarter.

Lewis scored a basket with 4:38 remaining in the fourth quarter to cut the lead to 39-32, but she couldn’t convert the ensuing free throw for a three-point play and the Wildcats couldn’t get any closer the rest of the game.
