Chelsea battles to a tie with Albertville in soccer match

The Chelsea High School boys’ soccer team battled to a 1-1 tie with Albertville in high school soccer action Feb. 18.

Chelsea controlled play in the first half, but finished with only one goal in the opening half. Ashley Page scored the Hornets’ lone goal off an assist by goalkeeper Josh Carpenter, who delivered the ball on a free kick from midfield.

Late in the first half, Albertville’s Luke Compton got a breakaway opportunity and finished it with a goal to even the score at 1-1 at the half.

Both sides missed opportunities in the second half. Albertville missed an opportunity on a penalty kick, after Chelsea was called for a foul in the box, when Carpenter came up with a diving save.

After a frantic surge by both teams in the final minutes, the game ended in a draw.

Carpenter finished with seven saves in the draw. Fellow Chelsea goalkeeper Trent Tinsley finished with three saves.
