Spain Park sweeps opening day doubleheader

The Spain Park High School baseball team swept Auburn and Opelika in an opening day doubleheader Feb. 21.

Spain Park defeated Auburn 5-2.

After falling behind 2-0, the Jaguars scored three runs in the third inning and two runs in the fifth inning to secure the victory.

Carter White led Spain Park (2-0) as he finished 3-for-3 at the plate with a homer, three RBIs and two runs scored.

Mikey White finished 2-for-3 and scored a run.

Chris Ellis picked up the win on the mound after giving up two earned runs on four hits with nine strikeouts and four walks in six innings. Dustin Cowart struck out one batter in one inning in relief.

The Jaguars defeated Opelika 16-3.

Spain Park scored one run in the first and second innings and seven runs in the third and fourth innings on its way to the win in five innings.

Carter White led Spain Park at the plate as he finished 3-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored.

Charlie McPherson finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Paul Hosemann finished 2-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored. Colton Freeman homered in the victory.

Marks Abernathy picked up the win on the mound after giving up three earned runs on five hits with five strikeouts and three walks in three innings.

Nathan Brock allowed one hit with one walk and a strikeout in two innings in relief.
