Calera splits season opening doubleheader

The Calera High School baseball team split an opening day doubleheader Feb. 21 with a win over Jeff Davis and a loss to Jemison.

The Eagles (1-1) defeated Jeff Davis 13-3. Calera racked up nine hits in the victory.

Zac Reneau led Calera as he finished 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and two runs scored.

Jordan Sizemore went 2-for-5 with an RBI. Keith Dowdell finished 1-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs. Eric Marsalis finished 1-for-4 at the plate and drove in three runs.

James Ellison picked up the win on the mound for the Eagles.

Calera fell to Jemison 11-1. The Eagles finished with only three hits in the loss.

Dowdell led Calera as he finished 1-for-3 at the plate and drove in the Eagles’ lone run in the game.

Chase Rockco took the loss on the mound.
