The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team honored its four seniors prior to tipping off against Georgia College and State University.
Unfortunately for the Falcons, the Bobcats spoiled senior night at BankTrust Arena after downing Montevallo 60-45 in a Peach Belt Conference contest Feb. 23.
Montevallo honored seniors Jessica Collins, Carrie Parrott, Kris Seigenthaler and Tiaren Young on senior night.
The Falcons (9-16 overall, 5-11 in Peach Belt Conference) were led by junior Davia Harris, who scored 10 points and grabbed three boards.
Redshirt freshman Alex Strickland scored eight points and grabbed two rebounds.
The Falcons shot just 28.6 percent from the field and 52.6 percent from the free-throw line. The Bobcats shot 46.8 percent from the field and 57.9 percent from the free throw line.
After trading baskets in the first two minutes of the game, the Bobcats went on a 13-2 run during the next 7:14 to take a 17-7 lead.
Montevallo quickly cut the deficit to just five points after a jumper from Harris and a 3-pointer from Strickland. After both teams went scoreless for more than three minutes, the Bobcats began to rebuild their lead and eventually went up by 11 points with two seconds left in the opening half.
Georgia College and State hung on to its lead the entire second half. The closest the Falcons could get was 38-32, but the Bobcats responded with five straight points to retake a double-digit lead. The Bobcats continued to pull away down the stretch.
