HOOVER — A Jefferson State Community College instructor recently picked up a prestigious honor when she was named a faculty scholar of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.

Dr. Liesl Ward Harris is one of only 25 faculty scholars selected this year from a pool of more than 2,700 chapter advisors.

“Serving as a Faculty Scholar is one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever had,” Harris said in a press release. “The professional development gained by faculty members from all over the country cannot be equaled. Working with honor students is an absolute joy, and I am grateful to Phi Theta Kappa and Jefferson State for this amazing opportunity.”

The faculty scholars will serve as discussion facilitators for the Honors Institute at Boston University June 13-17.

The Jeff State chapter of Phi Theta Kappa was named Most Distinguished Chapter in 2008 and 2009.
