Oak Mountain pounds Corner in baseball opener

The Oak Mountain High School baseball team defeated Corner 17-0 in its 2011 season opener Feb. 24.

The Eagles (1-0) finished with 13 hits in the game and scored four runs in the first inning to jump out to an early lead.

Justin Hoyt picked up the win on the mound after pitching a five-inning no-hitter with seven strikeouts and three walks.

Jake Hubbard led Oak Mountain at the plate as he finished 2-for-3 with a three-run homer and four RBIs.

David Dahl, who drove in two runs, went 3-for-3 finished with a single, a double and a triple. Dahl scored four runs in the victory.

John David (J.D.) Crowe finished 2-for-3 with two singles and scored four runs.
